This is the first rigging test of a Discord model that I have been working on for several months. I've finally finished the basic mesh and rigging, and I'm starting the fine-tuning process. He definitely still has a ways to go though - creative criticism is all kinds of welcome!

This model was created using Blender 3D, and the gif was compiled using Gimp.

At some point, I'd like to sell a copy on Shapeways, but before then I need to do a lot of work on the finer details of the mesh, as well as develop a hollowed-out version to reduce cost.

The model has been updated since this was first posted: see [link] for updated version.

I used Gimp, a free graphics editor. This tutorial I found on Google does a decent job of showing how to export a gif in gimp: [link]

In a nutshell, the process is to save your separate frames as image files, use Gimp's "open as layers" option to import them, and then export as a gif. The frame rate and compression options can be found in said dialog.

Speaking from experience, he is certainly a pain to rig! xD

Indeed. I think I'm going to try a spline-based IK for posing the main body on the next round of revisions (because normal IK targets at both ends result in a lot of predictable issues). At this stage I'm using a deformation mesh to handle facial expressions, so at least that isn't too much of a headache yet.

I'm mostly concerned with generating printable poses for the time being, so it'll probably be a while until I have time to set up a really robust solution.

Oh hey, cool to see that you're rigging your Discord model too!

I'd say his nostrils are too pointed and he has several small fangs instead of one big one

I would say that the limbs don't really look connected to the body, plus the material looks to shiny and reflective for the body.

plus the download link seems off, since it won't let me download it.
